My name is Wendy. I was born in England and emigrated to Perth, Western Australia in 1992, where I have lived for over 30 years.

I’ve had an interest in sewing and crafts since I was a little girl, as did all of my family, and my lovely Mum taught me how to use a sewing machine. There was always a sewing machine in the house when I was growing up, and I loved making things. I started by sewing dolls clothes and soft toys, and then learnt Hand Embroidery.

I joined the Embroiderers’ Guild of Western Australia in 2010, wanting to learn how to do free motion embroidery. I joined a Guild Group called Thread Magic, which I was asked to become the Group Leader of, and am still the Group Leader more than 10 years later. I’ve learnt many things by being a member of the Embroiderers’ Guild of WA and worked as the Office Administrator there, which I did for over 12 years. Having a massive embroidery library there is such a temptation and it's where a lot of my knowledge comes from.

As I’ve grown older, I’ve developed a passion for Free Motion Machine Embroidery and Textile Art, as well as for Hand Embroidery. This led me to study for an EGWA Teacher Accreditation. I achieved my Teacher Accreditation Certificate in 2016 after studying for approximately two years and have developed and taught workshops for the Embroiderers’ Guild of WA.

I’m always searching for, and learning, new techniques and never stop looking for inspiration from the nature around me, especially in trees and plants. If I find a new idea I have to try it and find new ways to explore it. I have to tell my brain to stop thinking from time to time!

I’m proud to say that I’ve won many certificates for pieces that I have entered in The Perth Royal Show in past years. The latest certificates and prizes that I’ve won were in 2022 for free motion machine embroidery. I entered a free motion machined picture that I had sewn. I included my favourite technique in this, which is stitching on dissolvable fabric. I managed to achieve a 3D effect by manipulating and adding items that I had stitched on dissolvable fabric. I was so pleased that this picture received a first prize certificate and a sash for the best exhibit in machine embroidery. I also received first prizes for the two other pieces that I had entered.

I love sharing my passion with others and showing what can be achieved when using just a basic domestic sewing machine or a needle and thread. This passion has led me to want to create in-person and online workshops so that I can share my knowledge and experience with like-minded people, like you, who want to explore the world of sewing and the fun that you can have creating whatever you’d like - the sky’s the limit!! I feel so proud when seeing a project that a student has finished, having learnt it in my Workshop, and get great pleasure in watching students achieve their goals.
